NKBA/NextGen Design Idea Home Makes An Impact

New innovations introduce the science, but discard the fiction.

Excerpts from Summer 2005 Volume 4 Issue 3

There's No doubt about it, technology has changed the way the world works. From Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) to the Internet, technology has affected our daily routines on nearly every level. Everything from the way we communicate to the way we make dinner... Our NextGen Design Idea Home will reveal what the home of tomorrow looks like, featuring state-of-the-art electronics, advanced products, and innovative design ideas...

Hidden in the kitchen was TMIO's Intelligent Oven, an appliance that can in all probability cook a meal better than your humble author. Based on the concepts, "Cool, Connect, Cook", TMIO's Intelligent Oven is ready to provide all the service of a curbside pickup, only in the home. The premise is easy; essentially the user places any meal that's ready to be cooked in the oven in the morning, turns on the intelligent program, walks away and heads to work. The meal will be chilled (as it would be in a standard refrigerator) until the user decides it's time for dinner. At that time, the user can call the oven (yes, you read it correctly) from a cell phone to activate the cooking process. Best of all the procedure is easy... it's something that can be done on the way home from work.

If it's not enough that the oven can cook for itself, it also integrates well with the room. In fact, walking through the kitchen, one would be hard pressed to discover the true nature of the appliance without actually reading up on it first -- just another example of how technology can be seamlessly integrated into any residence.
